Something to Say - Matthew West

Matthew West has been playing music professionaly since 2003, and is best known for his smash-hit "More," which was number one for 6 weeks, although his national debut released to mixed reviews.  Now, four years and two CDs later, (including the re-released "Sell-out") he is back with "Something To Say."  Laden with energy and engaging lyrics, the title track calls listeners to move out of their comfort zone and spread the gospel, while "The Motions" is a moving ballad with stirring chorus, and will certianly have radio sucess.  Producer Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, Amy Grant) jumps in on "You Are Everything" which brings out Matthew's worship side, and "The Center" adds some upbeat flavor as we move into the second half.  One thing that he does well is weaving real life problems in his music, like divorce on "The Moment of Truth", and abortion on "Life Inside You", without feeling overly preachy.  There are too many Christians that need to go forward and live for Christ, but are afraid to be abnormal and different, and that's what this album is all about. So as a talented writer and an epressive singer, Matthew West walked out of the studio this time with more than just a great CD, it's a message.  Do you have something to say? ~ Christian Lingner
