Life is Not a Snapshot - Josh Wilson

Since releasing his debut in early 2008, Sparrow Records recording artist Josh Wilson has floundered under the responsibility of making a profession out of his music. While landing two well-received singles and spots on several major tours, he did not get the publicity or attention needed to attain his rightful place in the Christian music industry. Nearly 1 ½ years later, while he is returning only with a 7-song EP, it seems this could the breaking point in his career. Whether for good or bad? Well, we’ll have to see. The lead single, “Sing” begins the disc with a nice upbeat feel, and while it sounds similar to the starter of his last effort, it’s worship sounding chorus will no doubt gain some radio plays, but hopefully start some buzz around this latest collection of his. “Before the Morning” starts where “Savior, Please” left off, but this time goes even farther lyrically and melodically, and features his avid talent not only vocally but in songwriting and metaphors, stating: Hold on, ‘cause there is good for those who love God/ but life is not a snapshot/ it might take little time/ Though the music itself flies by, one of my favorite things about this CD is that Josh doesn’t limit himself to a certain sound. From the love song ditty “How to Fall” to the black gospel tinged “Listen,” to the instrumental version of the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace," this disc is a sure gem. Track after track, the EP offers even more substance than in his early music, and as I have come to explain it: on his first time around he introduced himself, but on this one you truly get know him, and that’s what makes Life is Not a Snapshot so special. ~ Christian Lingner
