After releasing his first 6-song EP in April this year, Sparrow Records’ “Danyew” didn’t live up to my personal hopes. Sure, he had some nice sounds and fun upbeat tunes, but overall it wasn’t above average, and didn’t put him on my “to look for in the future” list. But as he introduces his second album of sorts, I find a more interesting artist, and lot of renovating done.
“Wake Up,” the title track, is probably the best here, starting things off with an electronic beat and synthesized feel that made me look closer right from the beginning. The follow-up “Twilight” is another tight upbeat song, ready with driving guitars and pounding pianos that pick up the speed mid-way. The main difference here I’d say is for one, his styling has become less predictable and more enjoyable, but also his lyrics and writing perspectives have tightened, and will be much more accessible for the listener. Finishing is the noteworthy “Silver Lining,” the chorus breaking into an almost disco beat, grabbing attention when on his first effort he was loosing momentum.
So I’d say the only problem here is the shortness of this ten minute EP, it flies like the wind and won’t satisfy fans for long. My hopes is that next year we will find a true, full-length CD for this emerging artist, for it seems if he puts enough time into his music he could soon be another Leeland or Phil Wickham, or even better. If he is trying to be just another pop/rock outfit, than he won’t rise above the rest. But if his goal isn’t fame, but to create great music, than he has the potential and talent to do just that. Only the future will tell with this still young artist, but my instincts tell me he has more in his prospects than almost any other new artist this year. ~ Christian Lingner

Actually, "WakeUp" is just one of 13 songs already recorded for a full-length CD that was originally to be released in April. Sparrow took into account the down turn in the economy and decided to release all new artists' albums as EPs.
ReplyDeleteAll thirteen songs were released to the Film and Television industry earlier in the year, but there are four songs of that original 13, let alone a slew of new songs, that the public has not yet been treated to.
Same artist, same style; more great music to come:-)
Thank you for that new info.
ReplyDeleteI still wish they did things in full albums, but I guess this could be a good choice in these times. I must say though, this music sounds better than the early stuff.
