There is an unfortunate theme with debuts that I see often. Regularly, they seem to fall in these three catagories: First, there are the ones that are mediocre, get poor reviews and don't sell. Second, the pretty good ones that get overly hyped, have a few radio hits and go huge. Then there are the outstanding ones that get little publicity and are overlooked. This one is of the latter. Josh Wilson's Sparrow Records debut "Try to Fit the Ocean in a Cup" is a fantastic album, yielding clever songwriting and an upbeat style, top tracks like "3 Minute Song" and "Turn Around" showcase his cassual vocals and soaring metaphors that will employ listeners and clearly indicate this young artist's talent. "Saviour, Please" is an immediate stand-out, and reveals his more mid-tempo side, while the fun "Dear Money" is a heartfelt ballad about the emptiness of money, and how it so often decieves us. "The Saints" is another good song, and though it may not be new material, he keeps things just unpredictable enough to capture and engage his audience. And while a couple of the tracks drag some, Josh has a lot of maturity here, and even if may not have heard of him, this is a disc worth picking up. ~ Christian Lingner4 of 5 stars
