Arriving - Chris Tomlin

Chris Tomlin has been playing music professionally since 2000, but I must admit, neither of his albums have struck me as all that good. But as I listen to his third disc, "Arriving" I immediately realize something has changed. To lead things off we have "Indescribable," featuring an anthem-like chorus and powerful verses that will get you praising God and his creation right off the bat. Following it up, we have "Holy is the Lord" and "How Great is Our God," which are both simple tunes, but with the great producing skills of Ed Cash combined with Chris' fantastic songwriting, both will surely be praise and worship classics. Other stand-outs include "You Grace is Enough" and the duet with Steven Curtis Chapman, "Unfailing Love." Some tracks in the second half blend one into another, and at times even branch into R&B, but even when well done, praise music can get a little old without some varying. So Chris has made a lot of progress, and if he keeps this up, he could certainly have a fruitful career ahead of him. ~ Christian Lingner
